18 week update
Mood:  happy
Topic: Ultrasounds

Amy is now almost 19 weeks and starting to show!! She seems to be done with the nausea but some back pain is starting to develop. Tracking her weight, she has gained a total of 6 pounds from day one to today. If she can stay on this track she will have little problem loosing any birth weight she may have put on.

We went for an ultrasound a few days ago to get some pictures and to find out the gender of our little one. Unfortunately, we were told that Amy has what's called an anterior placenta. Basically this mans that the baby is behind the placenta instead of it being behind the baby. Perfectly normal at this point but it makes it very hard to get clear pictures with the 4-D ultrasound. We did manage to get a few still shots off the video that are not too bad.

As for the baby itself…..it’s a boy!!!  He currently weighs 10oz, his foot measured 3cm and his heart rate was a strong 158bpm which is all normal. He is right in the middle of the growth charts for this time in the pregnancy.

For the stockers among us!!!
Mood:  not sure
Topic: Growth Charts

I am told that the baby is currently about the size of a.................FIG or 1.6 oz. Soon we should be able to actually hear the fetal heart beat which is currently in the range of 150-160 beats per minute!! We are also quickly approaching the 12 week mark which means that the risk of miscarriage is greatly reduced!!! This milestone will be a big relief for both of us. In addition, Amy should start to feel more energetic with less and less nausea developing.

As for the baby, not only does the brain continue to advance but the face is starting to gain a profile with a tiny nose starting to develop.

Mood:  d'oh
Topic: Ultrasounds

Unfortunately, the nausea monster seemed to rear its ugly head once again last night. Based on the look in Amy’s eye, the mere mention of a Sweet Onion Teriyaki sub brings homicidal thoughts that motivate me to sleep with one eye open. I almost feel guilty about teasing her with certain foods just to get the look but I find it to be far too amusing a pursuit to give up….I know karma will bite me later on but whatever.

Well, we are getting ready to leave for our very first ultrasound appointment in about an hour. I find it both exciting and terrifying all at the same time. On the brighter side of things, this now give me the afternoon off which is a very good thing!! Stop by again soon to get the results!!

Today we found out that it is the size of a prune!! The eyes continue to develop and the fingernails are starting to grow. Also, genitals are starting to form and should appear on an ultrasound within the next few weeks.

Amy is doing well, although she is sleeping for two. Not only is the nausea is subsiding she is off for the summer on Wednesday!!
